"A Caregiver to Be Proud Of"
March 9, 2008
I would like to tell you about Georgia. As a little girl she wanted to be a nurse. I meet her in Sept. 1967, when she was in her 2nd year of collage. In May of 1970, she finished college, and in Aug 1970 we were married. She went to work in a labor and delivery unit in Detroit. Then in 1982 she took a head nurse position at one of the top hospitals in Detroit, with an average delivery of 350 births per month. After 10 years, she asked me if I would mind if she went back to labor and delivery, as she missed it. She wanted to be back in the caregiver role. She went to Beaumont Hospital in Troy, MI. With her background she has become a top labor nurse. She teaches others and is such a caregiver, that she was picked by her peers to be given a Susan B. Anthony Recognition. I must tell you a little story, we went to a craft show, and I was ahead of Georgia when all of a sudden I heard a lot of fuss. When I turned a mother surrounded Georgia with her baby, and her girlfriends, telling them that when they get pregnant that they must ask for Georgia to be their nurse, as she was the best! Now I will let you know about me. In 1982 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. And I am now in a motor chair, with a list of things from MS. Also 2 years ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer, well they got it, but now they tell me cancer has shown up in my lung and in my lymph system. I do not tell you this for any other reason, but to tell you that Georgia is a 24/7 caregiver. This is a caregiver Susan B. Anthony would be proud of. Others wish that they could care like Georgia. She given us 2 fantastic sons, and I am so happy they are like Mom.
